Ford and BlackBerry sign agreement to expand autonomous vehicle cooperation

Recently, according to a report by Automotive News on October 31, BlackBerry and Ford signed a cooperation agreement, and Ford will expand the application of QNX security operating system in its models. This is the first direct cooperation agreement signed by BlackBerry with a large automaker. Previously, the company has always sold its own technology to automotive industry suppliers.

John Wall, head of BlackBerry's QNX division, pointed out, "We can provide the foundation for the entire vehicle, from autonomous driving to infotainment." He also said that QNX software has been certified for use in autonomous driving and active safety systems.

Ford is expanding its self-driving car development program, announcing in August that it plans to offer commercially available fully autonomous vehicles by 2021. BlackBerry and Ford declined to comment on how QNX software would be incorporated into the new systems or on the specific financial terms of the deal.
