US version of Mondeo under investigation by safety regulator

According to foreign media reports recently, Ford Motor's 2007 to 2009 Fusion (American version of Mondeo) and Mercury Milan are being investigated by US regulators due to occasional brake failure.

The investigation officially began on December 20. The Fusion is one of Ford's best-selling vehicles, while the Milan has been discontinued. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Ford said that they have received three related accident reports so far, but no casualties. Whether this investigation will lead to a new recall remains to be seen.

A document on the NHTSA website shows that when a vehicle is driving on rough and uneven roads (such as manhole covers or broken roads), the vehicle's anti-lock braking system may fail, increasing the possibility of accidents. NHTSA pointed out that many users have also complained that the brake pedals will "become soft" and sometimes even "fall directly to the floor."

Ford said it is cooperating with the safety regulator's investigation.

The 2007-2009 Fusion and Milan have been recalled several times. Ford also recalled 1.9 million vehicles, including 2006-2011 Fusion and Milan, due to Takata airbag problems. The 2010-2011 Fusion and Milan were also recalled due to fuel tank problems.
