Jiangsu test base opens, BBA collects Chinese autonomous driving test licenses

On September 14, at the "Smart Transportation and Internet of Vehicles Industry Development Summit Forum" of the 2018 World Internet of Things Expo, the autonomous driving public road test environment of the National Intelligent Transportation Comprehensive Test Base was officially opened. At the same time, SAIC Group and Audi China respectively obtained the first batch of autonomous driving test licenses in Jiangsu Province.

It is understood that the test base is located in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. It is the first and only operational safety test base for future autonomous vehicles in the public security industry. It mainly provides on-road testing environment and third-party authoritative certification services for domestic and foreign autonomous vehicle companies, Internet of Vehicles companies and research and development institutions.

Mr. Saad Metz, Executive Vice President of Audi China and Head of Audi Beijing R&D Center, said: "As a future smart city, Wuxi provides us with the best testing conditions. For example, it has a large public road network with complete infrastructure. We will move towards the future of autonomous driving together with our Chinese high-tech partners. At the same time, we will adjust our autonomous driving technology accordingly based on local policies."

So far, the three major German automakers have all obtained autonomous driving test licenses in my country: in May, the Shanghai Intelligent Connected Vehicle Road Test Promotion Working Group issued a Shanghai Intelligent Connected Autonomous Driving Test License to BMW; in July, Daimler Group became the first international automaker to obtain a Beijing autonomous driving vehicle road test license; in September, Audi China obtained the first batch of autonomous driving test licenses in Jiangsu Province.

In fact, Audi has been actively promoting relevant cooperation in the field of autonomous driving in China in the early days. In 2017, Audi conducted public road tests of the LTE-V vehicle networking project in Wuxi with Huawei and other domestic institutions. In July this year, Audi also signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation with Huawei in Berlin, Germany to strengthen research in the field of intelligent connected vehicles.

Next, in order to better promote the long-term development of the project, Audi China R&D Center also plans to set up a research and development and testing center in Wuxi in the first quarter of 2019. In the future, it is expected that about 150 employees will provide support for on-site testing of autonomous driving and vehicle networking technologies.
