Tesla received a RMB 4 billion loan, mainly for the construction of its Shanghai factory

Recently, foreign media revealed that Tesla obtained a loan of 4 billion yuan from Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited. The loan will be mainly used for the construction of Tesla's Shanghai Super Factory.

In terms of details, as early as the beginning of 2019, Tesla's Shanghai factory began construction in full swing. At the end of 2019, the first batch of mass-produced Model 3 began to be delivered. However, due to an unexpected epidemic in early 2020, the construction of Tesla's Shanghai Super Factory began to slow down significantly.

According to Tesla, the newly obtained loan will be used for the construction of the second phase of the Shanghai Super Factory, mainly to build the Model Y production line, while also further increasing the production capacity of Model 3.

Tesla previously stated in its financial report that the production capacity of Model 3 will be increased to 4,000 vehicles per week and 200,000 vehicles per year in the future. Presumably, this goal will be achieved soon after obtaining the loan.

It is worth noting that although Tesla has started building the Model Y production line now, according to official introduction, the official delivery time of Model Y is in early 2021. Therefore, Tesla’s current actions are mainly to further alleviate future pressure.
