Changan Weilai changes its name to Avita Technology and joins hands with Huawei and CATL to build high-end smart cars

On May 20, Changan Automobile announced that its subsidiary Changan Weilai New Energy Automobile has been renamed Avita Technology Co., Ltd. Avita Technology will operate independently and jointly develop intelligent electric connected vehicle platforms with Changan Automobile, Huawei and CATL to create a rich series of intelligent vehicle products.

Changan Weilai was jointly established by Weilai Automobile and Changan Automobile in 2017, and Changan Automobile will hold more than 95% of the shares after 2020. On November 15, 2020, Changan Automobile announced that it will jointly create a new high-end smart car brand with CATL and Huawei.

Officials said that "Avita" is taken from the English word Avatar, which means "incarnation". Avita Technology also uses this name to imply that each user will create another self in a parallel world of wisdom. Avita Technology will focus on developing human-computer interaction technology, improving the user's driving experience, and creating a "new generation of intelligent terminals that go beyond the mobile space."

It is worth noting that Huawei has appeared in this cooperation. Although Huawei has repeatedly emphasized that it will not build cars, it has not stopped its layout in the automotive industry. It has launched services such as smart cockpits and smart driving, as well as intelligent components such as lidar, and is also in a leading position in the field of autonomous driving chips in China.

CATL is a world-leading lithium-ion battery R&D and manufacturing company, focusing on the development of new energy vehicle energy systems. As of 2020, its power battery usage has ranked first in the world for four consecutive years. Its customers include Tesla, BMW, Honda, BAIC and other well-known domestic and foreign automobile brands.

Avita Technologies will combine the advantages of Changan Automobile, Huawei and CATL in automobile manufacturing, intelligent driving solutions and energy management to explore the high-end smart car market.
