Apple Watch battery life is only one day? Apple says it will change

Apple did not disclose battery life for the Apple Watch at its event on Wednesday, but the company later said users can charge it overnight, suggesting it could last a full day.

"Apple Watch incorporates a lot of new technologies that we think people will enjoy using throughout the day," said Nat Kerris, an Apple spokesman. "We anticipated people would charge it overnight, so we designed an innovative charging solution using our MagSafe and inductive charging technologies."

However, AppleInsider, a US technology blog, cited sources as saying that Apple is not satisfied with the current battery life of the Apple Watch. One person said that the current battery life of the watch is "about 1 day", and Apple will continue to optimize it before it goes on sale.

A day's worth of battery life is similar to other touchscreen smartwatches currently on the market. On the other hand, some less powerful smartwatches, such as the Pebble, have longer battery lives. These watches use a black-and-white display instead of a touchscreen. The Pebble's display uses less power and stays on all the time, and it can last a week on a single charge.

Battery life for the Apple Watch is still uncertain because the product is not yet finalized and ready for sale. Apple said Tuesday that the product will go on sale in early 2015, but declined to be more specific.

Apple has not announced more specific hardware parameters and prices. The starting price of this smartwatch is $349, but it is not clear how much the different models cost, and the 18K gold version may cost five figures.
