Some developers have found that in the new version of Android 12, Google’s imitation of iOS 14 behavior is very obvious, but users should still give it a thumbs up. Apple introduced a privacy and security feature in the iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 updates last year to inform users which apps are using camera or microphone permissions. Starting with Android 10, Google has also been working to improve the privacy experience of its own mobile operating system. In the recent Android 12 developer preview version, new changes have been reflected. Judging from the screenshots shared by developers, the new version of Android 12 will inform which app has permission to call the camera or microphone, so that users can determine whether they are being monitored by a specific app. Similar to the experience on the iPhone, the system will light up an orange or green indicator light in the upper left corner of the screen when an app calls the microphone or camera. If there is an orange dot in the upper left corner of the screen, it means that the app is using the microphone. If there is a green dot, it means that the app is accessing the camera. By tapping the notification, an actual window will pop up, detailing which apps are accessing the camera or microphone so that users can take further action (such as removing relevant permissions). In any case, it is still worth praising that the two major manufacturers copied and learned from each other in terms of protecting user privacy. |
