5G phone replacement season: After playing with Android for 12 years, I chose the "Android" iOS

5G phone replacement season: After playing with Android for 12 years, I chose the "Android" iOS

Recently I changed to iPhone 12 as my daily phone. It is hard to imagine that an old Android ROMer (ROM maker) would come to this day. Let me talk about why I finally chose IOS.

1. My Android journey:

In 2008, Steve Jobs officially released the iPhone 3G and iOS. In the same year, Google and HTC jointly released the G1 and Android 1.0, which kicked off a 12-year competition for mobile phone systems that has yet to be decided.

That was when I started to get in touch with Android. Why Android and not IOS? Because of CDMA (poverty). In fact, my first Android was not the famous G1, but the earlier HTC VX6900, a low-end parallel-imported HTC WM machine. Yes, Android was not a complete mobile phone system at first. It was more like a Linux with a simple mobile phone interface and call function. Its connection with mobile phone hardware was not as close as IOS. We can port it to mobile phones with similar hardware, so Google's greatest contribution was to open this Pandora's box. At that time, G1 also had many problems and was jokingly called an Android professional development machine.

The Android platform quickly attracted a small group of Linux enthusiasts who fiddled with this new toy brought by Google every day. A large number of forums emerged at home and abroad, such as the famous XDA forum abroad, the early Jifeng and DIYPDA in China, and a group of great players also appeared, such as Xdan, who was known as the first person in the domestic folk ROM. Various transplanted and compiled versions of ROMs for various models emerged in an endless stream, and everyone worked day and night. If Jobs injected soul into IOS, then the start of Android was undoubtedly the result of the continuous improvement of folk players;

In the early days, Android was like a child in front of iOS, full of loopholes but full of infinite possibilities. We never envied iOS because we could achieve more personalized customization on Android, especially since we had no profit pursuit and interests. Many functional codes were open source. The functions developed on HTC today would be ported to Samsung tomorrow and used on LG the day after tomorrow. We enjoyed it every day and could work on it until late at night, even all night long. We also had a group of loyal fans who tested it overnight. . When it was finally released, it was a great achievement. .

This state lasted for several years. Before Android 4.4, it can be said that both the public and Google were working hard. Google continued to improve its architecture and firmware, and the public improved its functions. During this period, with the help of the Jifeng Forum, I kept in touch with different mobile phones, such as HTC G2, G6, G10, G11, G12, G13, G14, G18, G20, OneX, OneS, M7, etc., Samsung N5700, S2, S3, S4, NOTE3, S6, Note5, S9, NOTE8, S10, NOTE10, etc., LG G2, G3 and other Android phones, and made various ROMs, from modifying the localization of firmware, de-Googleization, to the simple and hard system localization, playing with almost everything related to Android.

2. My iPhone experience:

Of course, Apple's iPhone and iOS have not been idle during this period. They have been upgrading their hardware and improving their systems as a routine formula. In fact, every time I watch Apple's press conference, I am also moved by its excellent hardware (design, screen, camera, etc.). I have also bought some, such as iPhone 5, 5s, 6, 6p, 6s, 6sp, SE, 7, x, and xr; but every time, without exception, I sold them after playing with them for a few days. . There is only one reason. Compared with Android, there is really nothing to play with. There is no room for tinkering with iOS. Perhaps it is because I have been tinkering with Android for too long and have long been accustomed to letting the phone operate according to my own habits, and I can't stand my own habits adapting to the set ones. This feeling is similar to you getting used to manual transmission and then driving automatic transmission? Of course, I have also tried to jailbreak iOS. Yes, it can expand certain personalities to a certain extent, but it is still too limited (compared with open source Android), especially since iOS 9.3.3, there is no perfect jailbreak, and the personalized customization after tinkering with Android is something that iOS can never compare with. .

3. My Android AFK:

But the subsequent development is a bit ironic. With the continuous improvement of the Android system, the number of domestic Android users has exploded, especially with the entry of regular forces such as Meizu, Xiaomi, and Huawei, which has made the domestic Android improvement road develop rapidly, especially the once open source MIUI, which has not only accumulated a huge fan base for Xiaomi, but also objectively improved the experience of many other brands of mobile phones; and with the increase in the number of Android users, various capitals have poured in, making the originally pure and benign environment a mess, with various promotions coming up and down, and various advertisements being implanted. In addition to the regular forces of various mobile phone manufacturers, we Most of these ROM developers are also involved. The monthly income of a built-in app can be as high as several thousand or as low as several hundred. If you are thick-skinned and have multiple built-in apps and have a certain user base, it is not uncommon to earn tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars a month. In this crazy period, everyone began to slander and abuse each other in order to snatch users. In order to maximize the benefits of their development results, they continued to complicate the code. Originally, a line of code could solve the problem, but in order to prevent others from borrowing, they had to set up many cross calls and various verification tests; in order to accurately count the number of users, it is often necessary to build in a long-term background service to monitor the number of activations in real time and count the rewards. . . Everyone puts their energy on this kind of useless work, which seriously violates the spirit of Linux open source. The system that could have been cleaner and faster often becomes even more stuck after tossing; what's more, both original and plagiarist have begun to charge fees and set up the so-called membership system, looking forward to everything. .

It was also at this time that many great players withdrew, and more coin chasers entered the market. Most of the developers who had originally relied on their interests to support themselves had their own jobs and lives. Perhaps they were secretly happy at first because they could earn some pocket money, but they soon sobered up and realized that this impact was tantamount to killing the goose that lays the golden eggs, which would not last and would end up in a mess. And most of the romers, how many of them would really rely on this to support their families (isn't that waiting to die?), everyone had their own original work and life, and there was no need to hurt this circle and users for a little money;

So gradually, no one bothered with Android anymore. On the contrary, various app developers, who thought that Android was a niche platform and was not taken seriously, began to use the open features of Android to do shameless things. Reading personal information was considered a minor offense. In order to occupy system resources, stay in the background, and snatch users, they did everything they could. However, due to its openness, Android often cannot control such apps. This is also the reason:

  • Why do we still experience slowness and lag even though we have 8G or 12G memory?
  • Why can’t we ban our increasing number of advertisements?
  • Why do I have so many apps installed on my new phone?
  • Why is the 0 promotion and 0 publicity of Meizu 18 so valuable?
  • Why is the app updating so slowly even though it reminds me every day?

The openness of Android is sometimes a double-edged sword. It helps it grow rapidly in the early stages, but hinders its development at a certain stage.

Fortunately, Google has also realized this and has tightened its permissions, which is what we call Android becoming more and more like iOS.

4. iOS like Android and Android like iOS, I choose iOS:

Now let's look at IOS. Every major version upgrade is accompanied by the voice of copying Android. Indeed, Android was initially maintained and improved by civilians, and then maintained by professional teams of various mobile phone manufacturers. It has stronger autonomy, more functions, and faster upgrades. However, IOS is only maintained by Apple, so it is normal for it to update slowly. Fortunately, IOS is always upgraded steadily. Although there are minor flaws, there are few major problems.

At the same time, IOS's strict review mechanism for apps prevents them from abusing their rights, creating the healthiest ecological environment at present. . The modification after jailbreaking has been controlled within a certain range and has not become a trend. Only a group of die-hards are persisting. Without the impact of capital, it is relatively simple. Take the simplest virtual positioning as an example. There is still a free Anywhere maintained on the jailbreak platform. On the other hand, although the Android platform is more open, many developers AFK, leaving a group of coin chasers. Although this function is simpler to implement than IOS, it is almost impossible to see free maintenance. . Maybe you will say that people have paid for writing code, and it is right to get rewards. If everyone thinks so, then Android will not be what it is today. The development of society is inheritance and development. We just need to learn from others' experience to innovate again. This is called development; if we just plagiarize and release it, it is shameful. In other words, if Google had not made Android open source for free in the early days, there would be no modification and improvement by the public and mobile phone manufacturers, and the current Android system would not be so quickly improved.

I have used iPhone X as my main phone since it was released, especially because it has a hardware vulnerability that allows it to be jailbroken permanently without being restricted by the iOS system version. . The reason why I gave up XR and 11, in addition to the jailbreak control, is also because of the signal problem of Intel baseband. Dual SIM is what I need, but I have tried XR, and the signal is indeed much worse than Qualcomm. . So I have never changed. . Holding two jailbroken iPhones is troublesome but helpless. . .

Fortunately, the release of iPhone 12 has brought about the long-standing popularity of Android phones:

  • Dual SIM, 5G network support
  • Wi-Fi 6 support
  • Qualcomm baseband solves signal problems for iPhone 10 (XS) and iPhone 11
  • IOS14.3 supports jailbreaking. At the same time, due to the existence of iPhoneX BUG, the jailbreaking ecosystem of IOS14 has been stable
  • It supports 27w fast charging, which is not as fast as Android, but it is enough.
  • Perfectly compatible with iwatch3 and airpods, accessories do not need to be replaced and the experience is better than Android~
  • There are also a large number of mobile phone accessories (cases, films, brackets, etc.) to choose from.
  • Carplay is a major highlight ahead of Android
  • The excellent and clean app ecosystem and the certain degree of freedom after jailbreaking to create basic personalized functions are enough to make this phone my next phone stickler.

5. Free advice that looks like a quick meal (some curses should be given here):

Finally, I would like to give a recommendation to all Android users. From the perspective of system cleaning, I recommend OnePlus. It is the cleanest system I have ever seen in the Android camp. Although there is also built-in promotion, it supports uninstallation. After uninstallation, the system is very clean. Moreover, compared with the Android SDK, the system has not changed much, and basically retains the original appearance of Android. The advantage of doing so is that it is fast. If you use it slowly or lags, it is definitely your personal problem. At the same time, OnePlus's hardware design is also good. In short, the high degree of openness of the Android system is something you cannot do without unless you don't know how to use it~~

In terms of the depth and breadth of system customization (no fuss), Xiaomi and Huawei have a deep understanding of the Android system. For example, everyone knows that GMS cannot be used in China. One of the functions of GMS is similar to the notification push of IOS, which is to receive notifications and reminders when the APP is not opened; in the absence of GMS function, the notification of the app depends entirely on the shamelessness of the app itself. For example, a certain letter or a certain QQ of a certain goose, without GMS, you will not receive notifications when you close the app. If you can still receive notifications, it is generally because this app is unethical and forcibly occupies the background (you can't clear it no matter how, except uninstalling). If everyone does this, no matter how much memory you have, it will not be enough. So we urgently need our own GMS substitutes on the Android platform. At present, Xiaomi and Huawei have done a good job in this regard. Of course, these two products have too many advertisements. But who doesn't have them? If you choose Android, just stick to it. Look at it with tolerance and treat it numbly.

Finally, from a romer's perspective: If Meizu's 0 promotion and 0 advertising is true, then it deserves respect.
