Red alert! Typhoon Makar will land here, how should we respond?

As Typhoon Makar is about to land, Hainan raises emergency response to flood and wind prevention to the highest level

At 10:00 on September 5, the Central Meteorological Observatory continued to issue a typhoon red warning :

Typhoon Makar, the 11th typhoon this year, strengthened into a super typhoon on the evening of the 4th. At 5 a.m. on the 5th, its center was located on the northern waters of the South China Sea, about 630 kilometers east-southeast of Xuwen, Guangdong. The maximum wind speed near the center was 17 (58 meters/second).

It is predicted that "Makar" will move northwestward at a speed of 10-15 kilometers per hour and its intensity will increase. It will make landfall on the coast from Qionghai, Hainan to Dianbai, Guangdong in the afternoon or night of the 6th (super typhoon level, 16-17, 52-58 meters/second), move into the Beibu Gulf in the early morning of the 7th, and then move towards the China-Vietnam border, gradually weakening in intensity.

Strong wind forecast :

From 14:00 on September 5 to 14:00 on September 6, there will be strong winds of 6 to 9 in the Taiwan Strait, most of the South China Sea, the coast of Guangdong, Hainan Island and its coast, the coast of Guangxi, and the Qiongzhou Strait. Among them, there will be strong winds of 10 to 12 in parts of the western coast of Guangdong, the northern and eastern coasts of Hainan Island, the Qiongzhou Strait, the eastern Beibu Gulf, and the northern and central South China Sea. The wind force in the nearby seas where the center of "Capricorn" passes can reach 13 to 17, with gusts above 17.

Precipitation forecast :

From 14:00 on September 5 to 14:00 on September 6, heavy to torrential rain will occur in the southeastern part of Taiwan Island, the southern coastal areas of Guangdong, Hainan Island and other places, including heavy torrential rain (100-160 mm) in the northern part of Hainan Island.

According to the Hainan Provincial Meteorological Bureau, the Hainan Provincial Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Relief Committee launched a Level I emergency response for flood and wind prevention at 11:30 a.m. on the 5th, and the entire province entered the highest level of typhoon prevention and resistance.

How to deal with typhoon weather?

When a typhoon comes, we must keep abreast of the typhoon's dynamics, move people to safe areas in a timely manner, cancel all outdoor activities, suspend classes in schools if necessary and make sure to evacuate people.

When a typhoon makes landfall, try not to go out. You should take shelter from the wind and rain in a sturdy house. If you are outdoors, do not take shelter near temporary structures, billboards, etc. to avoid being hit by the rain.

People living in dilapidated houses and low-lying areas that may be flooded should be moved to safe places in a timely manner.

Reduce the possibility of falling objects . External air conditioners and high-altitude facilities should be reinforced, and items such as flower pots exposed on balconies and windows should be moved indoors.

Doors and windows should be tied and fastened tightly, and aluminum alloy doors and windows should be protected in particular.

Prepare emergency items for escape . Check the wiring, prepare flashlights and candles, and store drinking water in case of power outages and water shortages; prepare extra food and vegetables for one or two days, and do not go out unless necessary.

If you find that a high-voltage tower has collapsed, or that wires are drooping or broken, you must stay away from them and never touch them.

If you are unable to avoid the typhoon at sea or encounter it, you should contact the relevant departments on shore in time to seek rescue. While waiting for rescue, you should take the initiative to take emergency measures, correct the sailing direction in time according to the latest typhoon information available, and avoid the typhoon quickly and decisively.
