South Korea and France team up to develop driverless car technology

South Korea's trade minister recently announced that South Korea and France will jointly invest 3 billion won (about 2.65 million U.S. dollars) in the research and development of driverless car technology over the next three years, according to Yonhap News Agency.

South Korea and France will each invest 500 million won a year over the next three years to jointly research traffic jam assist (TJA) technology, which can help car owners drive their cars automatically in traffic jams, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

It is reported that Renault Samsung, the Korean subsidiary of French automaker Renault, LG Electronics and French company Valeo will also participate in the cooperation. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korea said that it is expected that the traffic jam assist system (TJA) will be mass-produced in 2020.
