Tesla pushes Autopilot update, autopilot mode speed limit 72km/h

According to foreign media reports, Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently tweeted that the company has begun pushing new software updates to Model S and Models X equipped with second-generation Autopilot hardware. The autopilot software update does not require car owners to do any downloading, it will update itself wirelessly. It is understood that the new Tesla will still not have the same fully automatic or semi-automatic driving functions as the old ones. If the owner wants it, he needs to go to the Tesla service center to let the staff there debug it.

Tesla disclosed that while the new cars are equipped with more advanced hardware, their software development is still ongoing.

Tesla says the new hardware will eventually be able to control the car in all conditions.

Tesla cars equipped with second-generation hardware now have an Autosteer speed limit of 45mph (about 72km/h), which means that when the car enters the autopilot mode, it can only drive in the slow lane. In addition, the second-generation autopilot hardware will work with the Traffic Aware Cruise Control System (TACC), and the software is the same. TACC can adjust the speed, slow down or accelerate according to the distance between the car and the car in front. Currently, the maximum speed supported by TACC is 75mph (about 121km/h).

In addition, Tesla cars will also get the forward collision warning (FCW) function, which alerts the driver before an obstacle is found in front of the road or a possible collision. The alarm includes an audible alarm and a visual alarm. However, Tesla cars will no longer use the automatic emergency braking (AEB) function. If this function is added, Tesla will not be able to achieve parallel parking, vertical parking, and Tesla's unique Summon parking.

It is reported that Tesla has been preparing for this software upgrade for several months. Two weeks ago, the company hinted that it would push the update across the board in the near future.
