Windows beta test leader: Microsoft continues to focus on mobile business

Over the past few months, Windows Phone has slowly become irrelevant in the mobile market. According to Gartner***, only 1.9 million Windows Phones were sold worldwide in the second quarter of 2016, and the Windows Phone operating system market share has fallen to a negligible 0.6%, but Microsoft has not given up on mobile yet.

Dona Sarkar, head of Windows Insider, also talked about his views on Lumia and Microsoft's mobile business on Twitter today. Dona Sarkar said that it is too early for Microsoft to announce its new generation of smartphone products. Microsoft continues to adhere to its current policy of allowing third-party OEM manufacturers to gain a larger share of the Windows phone market.

In addition, Dona Sarkar made it clear that Windows Phone devices from third-party OEM manufacturers will be eligible to test the Windows mobile operating system. In other words, Windows Phone users who like the most advanced technology provided by third-party OEM manufacturers will also be able to participate in the Windows mobile operating system internal test.

Earlier in May, Terry Myerson, head of the Windows and Devices Group, said in an internal memo sent to Windows partners that the mobile operating system will still be supported in the future and that partners' investments in Windows phones are not at risk. Getting a Windows 10 experience on mobile devices remains Microsoft's ambition.
