Apple submits training plan for operators for new autonomous driving progress

According to Reuters, in a document submitted to California regulators earlier this month, Apple proposed a plan to train operators of self-driving vehicles. The above information is the latest progress report on the company's self-driving project.

On April 14, local time, the California Department of Motor Vehicles approved Apple's request for self-driving testing, but Apple did not disclose any information about the testing plan. Apple's self-driving project has always been very private, but this time California released Apple's 41-page application documents to Reuters, providing many clues for the outside world to understand the company's self-driving project.

The proposed training program includes a document called "Automated System: Development Platform Specific Training Overview," which states that the purpose of the program is to "train safe drivers for different automated driving scenarios." The document states that "the development platform will be electronically controlled, and the safety driver can intervene or take control of the vehicle when necessary." The document also highlights different test scenarios, including high-speed driving, large turns and lane changes.

In a letter submitted to the California Department of Motor Vehicles, Apple pointed out that the above-mentioned research and development platform can collect and store relevant data before a potential collision occurs. However, the submitted documents did not disclose how Apple's autonomous driving platform works or other technical details, nor did they disclose the types of sensors used in Apple's three approved test models. According to reports, the above three models are all RX450h.

However, even if Apple obtains approval for autonomous driving road testing, it does not mean that Apple is developing a complete vehicle. Reuters pointed out that Apple is likely developing an autonomous driving platform that can be embedded in models of other car companies.
