Cook talks about car project for the first time: Apple is developing autonomous driving system

Recently, Apple CEO Tim Cook explained the company's car plan for the first time. In an interview with Bloomberg TV on June 5, he said: "We are focusing on driverless systems. This is a core technology and we think it is very important. We see it as the cradle of all artificial intelligence (AI) projects and one of the most difficult AI projects we are working on." Consulting service company McKinsey predicts that the global autonomous vehicle market will reach 6.7 trillion US dollars in 2030. At present, the global competition in the field of autonomous vehicles is very fierce. Traditional automakers, parts suppliers, and technology companies have formed strategic alliances to strengthen their own camps. It is reported that Apple initially sought to build cars alone, but later adjusted and decided to prioritize the development of the technology behind it last year. Apple has hired more than a thousand engineers since it decided to launch its car project Project Titan in 2014. Apple obtained permission from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in April to test three driverless SUV vehicles. According to sources familiar with the Project Titan plan, six vehicles have been secretly testing driverless technology on public roads near the San Francisco Bay Area for at least a year. An Apple spokesperson declined to comment on how long the road tests would take. "Major disruptive technologies are coming. You'll find that changes in these three areas are happening in almost the same time frame," Cook said in the interview, referring to driverless technology, electric vehicles and ride-hailing services. Cook is optimistic about the prospects of electric vehicles. The market's optimism about the future development of electric vehicles has also greatly increased the market value of American electric car manufacturer Tesla, and it became the world's fourth largest car last week, but the company's sales have not yet entered the top ten. Cook also said: "The experience of not having to stop at a gas station is really amazing." As for whether Apple will consider producing its own complete vehicle system in the future, Cook did not give a clear answer. He said: "In the future, we will evaluate how this part of Apple's business develops. From a product perspective, it is impossible to judge what we will do in the future."
