In terms of power, the XT5 uses GM's latest 9AT gearbox. According to the manufacturer, the gearbox on the XT5 is somewhat different from the gearbox on the Equinox and the new Regal in terms of detail tuning. The changes in the power system also include the engine. The 28E model of the facelifted XT5 also adds a mild hybrid system, which uses an independent 90V power supply.
