Tesla recalls some Model X vehicles in China due to safety risks

Not long ago, Tesla issued a voluntary recall notice for the Model X, recalling Model X electric SUVs produced between 2016 and 2017. The reason for the recall was that the seats were not safe enough in the event of a collision.

Tesla recently filed a recall plan with the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine: Starting from October 19, 2017, some imported 2016 and 2017 Model X series vehicles produced between October 28, 2016 and September 1, 2017 will be recalled. According to Tesla statistics, a total of 2,277 Model X vehicles were recalled in China.

Due to assembly reasons, the cable length of the second row left foldable seat used to release the seat back folding mechanism of some vehicles within the scope of this recall is improperly adjusted, which may cause the seat back folding mechanism to fail to lock completely. In the event of a vehicle collision, the seat back may move forward, increasing the risk of injury to the occupants and posing a safety hazard.

It is worth mentioning that Tesla has not received any reports of car owners being injured due to this problem. Instead, it discovered the problem during internal testing and subsequently recalled the vehicles with the problem.

The solution to this problem is also very simple. Tesla only needs to readjust the length of the cable of the folding mechanism of the left foldable seat back in the second row of the vehicle to eliminate the defect. It can be done in 10 minutes. At the same time, Tesla will sell the inventory vehicles after eliminating the defect.
