Sony's high-tech driverless car is unveiled: Is this a walking 4K TV?

With Sony Group raising its performance target for fiscal 2017 and operating profit rising to 630 billion yen, this Japanese company, which has long been threatened with bankruptcy, seems to have the capital to start its own bizarre "hobby".

Not long ago, Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai announced that after many years, he would launch a new generation of AIBO robot dogs that almost no one would buy. Now, Sony's driverless cars are also going to be on the road.

Recently, Sony unveiled its latest autonomous driving concept car, code-named SC-1. Its three-dimensional dimensions are 3140/1310/1850mm, and it can accommodate three people. It uses alternative fuels and can travel at a maximum speed of only 19km/h, which makes it more like a sightseeing cable car in terms of use, and it supports both manual or autonomous driving.

In terms of autonomous driving, Sony SC-1 can use image sensors to identify the gender and even age of passers-by outside the car when driving at night without turning on the lights.

It is worth mentioning that as the world's leading high-end TV manufacturer, Sony SC-1 looks more like a walking 4K TV. It uses high-resolution displays instead of transparent windows. Not only is the car equipped with a 49-inch 4K LCD screen, but there are also 4 55-inch 4K LCD displays outside the car.

Currently, Sony SC-1 is being tested at Okinawa University of Science and Technology. We all know that Jia Yueting's LeTV self-driving car is in trouble in China. As a company that also has a TV business, Sony seems to be more reliable this time.
