NIO released its 2019 Q2 financial report, with losses expanding to 3.285 billion, and a cumulative loss of 40 billion in 4 years

Recently, NIO released its unaudited second quarter financial report for 2019 as of June 30, 2019. According to the financial report, NIO's revenue in the second quarter was 1.508 billion yuan, and its net loss reached 3.285 billion yuan. In comparison, NIO's revenue in the first quarter reached 1.63 billion yuan, and its loss was only 2.6236 billion yuan.

NIO performed slightly worse in the second quarter, presumably because of the recall plan in June. But overall, NIO still did not escape the curse of losses, which means that NIO has accumulated losses of about RMB 40 billion in four years. It took Tesla 15 years to lose $5 billion (about RMB 35 billion).

Interestingly, while releasing its financial report, NIO announced the cancellation of its scheduled second quarter earnings conference call. In response, NIO stated that calls are generally a supplement to the financial report, and because NIO’s financial report was already detailed enough and there was nothing to supplement, the meeting was canceled.

Affected by the financial report, NIO's stock price has fallen to US$2.17, and its market value has shrunk to US$2.28 billion. Compared with NIO's peak market value of US$11.9 billion, NIO's management must be very anxious.
