Tesla's biggest rival emerges! Apple is reportedly working with TSMC to develop autonomous driving chips

As early as 2014, Apple launched Project Titan to independently build cars, but it was shelved for a while due to various reasons. Recently, with the confirmation of the leader of Apple's car business, Apple's car-building plan has been launched again, and Apple's patent applications for cars have accelerated.

Now, the latest news from foreign media shows that Apple is working with its supply chain partner TSMC to develop an autonomous driving chip similar to Tesla's, specifically for the "Apple Car."

The report stated that Apple and TSMC have basically finalized the plan to build a factory in the United States to produce Apple's self-driving chips, and negotiations with upstream and downstream partners in the automotive electronics industry chain are also proceeding in an orderly manner.

There are reports that the autonomous driving chips developed by Apple and TSMC may be used in models of other manufacturers rather than in vehicles produced by Apple itself.

But there are also reports that Apple is still considering manufacturing the entire vehicle itself, designing autonomous driving systems for other automakers, or releasing autonomous driving kits that are compatible with third-party cars.

TSMC currently cooperates closely with Apple. For example, the self-developed desktop ARM chip M1, which was just launched this year, is manufactured by TSMC. With the exposure of the cooperation information between the two in the foundry of autonomous driving chips, the cooperation business between Apple and TSMC has further expanded. In fact, with the continuous evolution of autonomous driving technology, automotive smart chips are expected to become TSMC's fastest growing business segment in the future. Earlier, there were reports that Tesla was seeking TSMC to manufacture its HW4.0 autonomous driving chip.
