Android 14 first exposure: flip the cake

Recently, some of the first submission codes related to Android 14 have appeared on Android Gerrit, and from the code we can see that its code name is "Upside Down Cake". Because the letter U happens to be the first letter in the naming, Upside Down Cake is expected to be the code name of this version.

It is reported that an upside-down cake is a cake that is baked upside down in a pan, with the ingredients (usually slices of fruit such as apples or pineapples) placed on the bottom of the pan. The batter is then poured on top and the cake is baked in the oven.

The naming rule of the Android system from the beginning is to use an alphabetical list for naming, and each major version update will usher in a new dessert name.

(via XDA-Developers)

Let's review the previous dessert code names of Android: Android 1.5 is called Cupcake, Android 1.6 is called Donut, Android 2.2 is called Froyo, Android 2.3 is called Gingerbread, Android 3.0 is called Honeycomb, Android 4.0 is called Ice Cream Sandwich, and so on.

However, Google started using numbers to name its products starting with Android 10. However, the tradition of naming its products after desserts has been retained, but it is only used internally.

It is understood that the reason why Google cancelled the dessert code name of Android is mainly because Android is a global operating system, and some dessert names are difficult for people from different cultures to understand.
