Recently, foreign media revealed that Great Wall Motors is planning to establish a new independent brand of smart electric vehicles, which will focus on SUVs and sedan products.

Although Great Wall can be regarded as a traditional car-making force, it began to enter the new energy market through the "Ora" brand as early as 2018. According to official data from Great Wall, in November 2020, the sales volume of Ora cars reached 11,592 units, a year-on-year increase of 415%.

However, it is worth noting that although Ora’s sales are quite good, Ora’s products are mainly “micro cars”, so its influence in the mainstream new energy market is not great.

In addition, from the perspective of the secondary market, since the beginning of 2019, the stocks of upstream and downstream companies of new energy vehicles including BYD, Tesla, and CATL have all achieved multiple growth, surpassing the strength of traditional car manufacturing.

Therefore, whether for the long-term strategic layout or the healthy iteration of products at this stage, it is very necessary for Great Wall to make more in-depth layout of new energy vehicle business.
