Recently, some media saw JAC Motors’ announcement of a tender for “new energy passenger vehicle body parts construction project general contracting” on the national public resource trading platform. In this regard, an insider revealed that the project may be the second phase of the NIO factory.

In terms of details, JAC Motors' bidding announcement shows that the total investment of the project is 350 million yuan, the construction area is 275,000 square meters, and it will be completed in about one year. It is worth noting that the first mass-produced sedan released by NIO, the NIO ET7, is also scheduled to be delivered in the first quarter of 2022. The "coincidence" of the maturity of these two projects seems to confirm that the factory planned by JAC is tailor-made for NIO.

In fact, even without the NIO ET7, the production capacity of the JAC NIO factory is already stretched to its limits. Official data shows that since September 2020, the production capacity of the JAC NIO factory has reached 5,000 vehicles per month, but since October 2020, NIO's sales have exceeded 5,000 vehicles for three consecutive months, with the highest sales in December even reaching 7,007 vehicles. In this regard, NIO CEO Li Bin said helplessly: "At present, some of our main workshops have already started double shifts, and some have started single shifts. The production capacity will gradually increase according to demand."

On the other hand, as NIO gradually gains ground in the market, its new products are also starting to gain momentum. For example, the EC6, which was delivered in September 2020, had monthly sales exceeding that of the ES6, and there is still much room for improvement. Li Bin also said that after the ET7, NIO will also launch "a new car smaller than the ET7."

Therefore, NIO’s most urgent task at present is to ensure that the factory’s production capacity keeps pace with market demand.
