BMW CFO talks about Apple cars: Not afraid of threats, "sleep soundly", and will continue to maintain its leading position in the industry

According to foreign media reports, BMW Chief Financial Officer Nicolas Peter said he "slept well" when asked about the potential threat posed by Apple cars.

Peter is not worried about rumors that Apple will launch an electric self-driving car in the coming years, and he also said that BMW is well positioned in the transition of private cars to electric vehicles.

"I sleep very well. Competition is not a bad thing. It can be motivating. We are currently in a good position in the industry and we will continue to maintain our leading position," said Peter.

BMW has several plans to offer alternatives to car ownership, including a joint parking app business with Daimler and a partnership on ride-hailing services.

“We will continue to roll out digital mobility services, especially in city centres, where we have already seen a change in driving habits. We plan to significantly reduce the number of private vehicles entering cities in the future, so we need these digital transport services,” Peter said.

Apple is developing a self-driving car platform for its rumored Apple Car, according to Reuters, after talks with Hyundai to produce the car by 2024 fell through.

As a global technology giant, Apple has been developing electric vehicles since 2014, and has submitted a large number of automobile-related standing applications, and has also poached a large number of key employees from companies such as Tesla and Porsche.

Some industry insiders believe that Apple’s entry will pose a huge threat to current participants in the electric vehicle field.
