China Passenger Car Association: From January to September 2022, the wholesale volume of new energy passenger vehicles reached 4.341 million units, a year-on-year increase of 115.4%

The China Passenger Car Association released an analysis of the national passenger car market in September 2022. The data showed that from January to September, the wholesale of new energy passenger cars reached 4.341 million units, a year-on-year increase of 115.4%. In September, the retail sales of new energy passenger cars reached 611,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 82.9%. From January to September, the domestic retail sales of new energy passenger cars reached 3.877 million units, a year-on-year increase of 113.2%.

In terms of manufacturer rankings, BYD continued to stand out, with sales exceeding 200,000 vehicles in September, more than twice Tesla's sales of more than 80,000 vehicles. SAIC-GM-Wuling followed closely behind thanks to the hot sales of Hongguang MINI EV.

The specific sales rankings are as follows:

BYD Auto sold 200,973 vehicles, Tesla China sold 83,135 vehicles, SAIC-GM-Wuling sold 52,377 vehicles, Geely Auto sold 39,227 vehicles, GAC Aion sold 30,016 vehicles, Changan Automobile sold 28,574 vehicles, SAIC Passenger Car sold 23,433 vehicles, Chery Automobile sold 20,508 vehicles, Nezha Auto sold 18,005 vehicles, Li Auto sold 11,531 vehicles, Leapmotor sold 11,039 vehicles, NIO sold 10,878 vehicles, FAW-Volkswagen sold 10,770 vehicles, Great Wall Motor sold 10,368 vehicles, and Jinkang New Energy sold 10,101 vehicles.

The China Passenger Car Association said that although the country has introduced an incentive policy to halve the purchase tax on fuel vehicles, the new energy vehicle market has strong growth momentum as international oil prices hover at high levels, domestic new energy demand is steadily improving, and leading new energy vehicle companies are driving strong growth.

In particular, the current local consumption promotion policies for new energy vehicles are no less than those for fuel vehicles in terms of subsidy amount and coverage, which has promoted the continued accelerated growth of new energy vehicles.
