New MacBook Air storage performance is not as good as the old device

The newly released 2014 MacBook Air has a processor performance boost thanks to the new Haswell chip. But storage performance seems to have dropped, according to reports. After a series of benchmarks conducted by Macworld, the flash storage tests seem to suggest that the flash storage in the new MacBook Air is not as fast as the old 2013 model. The comparison included the following models, the 2013 11-inch MacBook Air (256GB SSD), the 2013 13-inch MacBook Air (128GB SSD) and the 2014 11-inch (128GB SSD) and 13-inch (256GB SSD) MacBook Air. Copying a 6GB document took 28 seconds using the old 11-inch device, but 54 seconds using the new 11-inch model. With solid-state storage, lower-capacity drives tend to take longer. However, the new 11-inch (128GB) model also has slower flash storage than the old 13-inch (128GB) model. Compressing a 6GB file also took longer on the new MacBook Air, with the 11-inch model taking three times longer to decompress than the old model. Copying a small but large file was still 35% slower than the old 13-inch model, and 53% slower when decompressing. The BlackMagic Disk Speed Test also showed that the new model is significantly slower than the old model in both read and write speeds.
