Smart TVs have security holes

Smart TVs have security holes
Recently, news from the Internet said that researchers from Columbia University in the United States discovered a vulnerability in HbbTV smart TVs, which is very vulnerable to hacker attacks. I believe that seeing this news, many domestic users who are using smart TVs will feel very panic. Will the smart TVs they are using also have security risks? What is going on? Let's take a look together. Researchers conducted an experiment in the Manhattan community of New York: drones with electronic devices were released from the roof of a building. These devices can capture digital broadcast signals, inject malicious code into the digital stream, and send data back to users at the same frequency. Within a few minutes, the user's printer printed out unnecessary coupons, Yelp reviews, and Facebook content. Although users did not feel attacked, in fact all smart TVs in this community were controlled by hackers. Once this method is mastered by hackers, they can invade the user's home smart TV and even control unprotected or weakly protected WiFi routers and PCs. The only thing users can do is turn off the TV or switch to another channel. Otherwise, the attack will continue. After the attack is over, hackers will not leave any traces. It is understood that some countries such as the United States and Europe have adopted smart TVs with HbbTV standard transmission methods. This vulnerability may affect more than one million users. For smart TVs, applications should be installed from the built-in application store. It looks terrible, but for domestic users, there is actually no need to worry. The vulnerability exposed this time is HbbTV smart TV. HbbTV is called Hybrid Broadcast/Broadband TV in English. It is a content publishing platform compatible with DVB. It can provide signaling, transmission and presentation mechanisms for enhanced and interactive TV services, and can run on terminals with mixed broadcast and Internet connections. We can understand it in a popular way as a two-in-one transmission method similar to cable TV and broadband. At present, domestic smart TVs are not based on HbbTV, but on Android smart systems, so the above-mentioned vulnerabilities do not exist. However, it is still recommended that when installing various applications on smart TVs, you must download them from the TV's own application store or Android market, and do not download applications from unknown websites at will. For example, once a QQ APK file containing a Trojan or malicious program is downloaded, the password may be stolen after installation and operation, so it should not be taken lightly.
