Beijing Internet Speed Evaluation Report: 10M Bandwidth is Actually Only 3M

2014 marks the 20th anniversary of China's Internet. The Beijing Science and Technology Journalists and Editors Association organized a speed test activity in Beijing titled "20 years of Internet, is your Internet speed fast enough?" The activity was specifically implemented by Beijing Science and Technology Newspaper, which recruited thousands of netizens in Beijing to participate in the speed test. On June 25, the "2014 Beijing Internet Speed Evaluation Report" was officially released. Beijing has basically achieved "optical fiber in, copper out" The survey report shows that among the netizens recruited, 62% of users signed up for a speed of 10M, 21% for 20M, 11% for 50M, 3% for 100M, and 3% for less than 10M. It can be seen that 10M users account for the vast majority of the recruited users, and users of 10M and above account for 97% of the total. Most bandwidths of 10M and above require optical fiber to achieve, so from the speed point of view alone, optical fiber in Beijing has been very popular, and "optical fiber in, copper out" has basically been achieved. Only two companies have qualified download speeds The survey report statistically compares the download speeds of 10M users. It is not difficult to find from the comparison that, according to the operator classification, only Beijing Unicom and Beijing Telecom can reach the standard speed required by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. According to the standard algorithm of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the download speed should be the contracted speed divided by 8 and then multiplied by 0.9. Only products that reach this download speed are qualified products. Taking 10M broadband as an example, the download speed must reach 1.125M or above. Beijing Unicom and Beijing Telecom exceed this standard, Beijing Mobile is below the edge of the standard, and Gehua Cable, Broadband, and Great Wall Broadband are far below the standard. According to this algorithm, the actual bandwidth of Broadband, Great Wall Broadband and Gehua Cable 10M is only about 3M. Compensation should be paid for speed not meeting the standard. The Internet is like buying vegetables. If you encounter "shortage of weight", you should ask for compensation. However, few people have heard of compensation for speed not meeting the standard. The survey shows that all operators promise free repairs if the speed does not meet the standard, but only Beijing Unicom compensates for speed not meeting the standard. Beijing Unicom promises that if the speed of the broadband service does not reach the contracted standard after repair during the use period, the customer will be unconditionally accepted to return the broadband. If the customer agrees to continue using Unicom broadband, the customer will first be compensated for one month's broadband package fee in one lump sum, and then the phone fee will be compensated every month, with the compensation not less than 20% of the package fee. This approach is more in line with the protection of consumer rights. In Beijing, only Beijing Unicom currently pays compensation for speeds that do not meet the standard, which shows that the service awareness of network operators needs to be strengthened.
