Honda China announced its performance for the past year, and sales continued to decline.

Honda China announced on January 9 that Honda's terminal car sales in China in December 2024 were 111,870 units. From January to December 2024, Honda's cumulative terminal car sales in China were 852,269 units, a year-on-year decrease of 30.9%.

Japanese automakers Nissan and Honda previously planned to negotiate a merger to better compete amid a rapidly changing global auto industry.

In addition, Mitsubishi Motors may also join the merger negotiations.

Honda and Nissan are reportedly considering operating through the establishment of a holding company and will soon sign a memorandum of understanding. In addition, the two companies also plan to eventually include Mitsubishi Motors under the holding company. Nissan is currently the largest shareholder of Mitsubishi Motors, holding a 24% stake.

The two companies said the merger would help the two automakers compete with Tesla and Chinese electric vehicle companies and would consolidate Japan's auto industry into two major camps.
