Tesla's sales in the UK rose by more than a fifth in February, data showed, even as sales in other European countries continued to plummet as Chief Executive Elon Musk's controversial and divisive behavior since becoming a key figure in the Trump administration sparked growing consumer resistance. Tesla sold nearly 4,000 vehicles in the UK in February, with the Model 3 and Model Y being the second and third best-selling models, behind the Mini Cooper, according to new car registration data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Tesla's sales rose 20.7% year-on-year, lifting the company's UK market share to 4.6% from 3.75% a year earlier, suggesting Musk's actions have yet to hurt the electric car maker's performance in the country. Sales in the UK car market as a whole fell 1% to 84,054 units last month. The SMMT said sales of pure electric cars rose nearly 42% year-on-year in February, accounting for a quarter of all new registrations, as buyers sought to avoid a new tax on expensive cars that came into effect in April and will affect many electric cars for the first time.
