China Passenger Car Association: Auto sales in February 2025 hit a record high for the month, with 7 out of every 10 cars sold being domestically produced

According to the latest data from the China Passenger Car Association, the national passenger car market ushered in a historic moment in February, with wholesale volume reaching 1.767 million vehicles, a record high for the month, up 33.8% year-on-year. In this impressive report card, domestic automakers performed particularly well. In February, wholesale volume of domestic automakers reached 1.25 million vehicles, up 60% year-on-year and down 13% month-on-month, showing the strong momentum of domestic brands in the market.

It is worth noting that the sales volume of domestic brands of cars has exceeded 70%, which means that for every 10 passenger cars sold, 7 are domestically produced, demonstrating the dominant position of domestic brands in the market.

Meanwhile, the wholesale volume of mainstream joint venture automakers in February was 360,000, up 8% year-on-year, but down 19% month-on-month, showing some pressure. The luxury car market suffered a decline, with wholesale volume of only 160,000 in February, down 23% year-on-year and 26% month-on-month, showing that competition in the high-end market has intensified.

In terms of major passenger car manufacturers, the overall wholesale performance showed a differentiated trend. Geely Automobile, Chery Automobile, Changan Automobile and other automakers performed relatively strongly both year-on-year and month-on-month, becoming the leaders in the market.

In addition, among the 33 passenger car manufacturers with wholesale volumes of more than 10,000 vehicles, 10 achieved positive growth on a month-on-month basis, and 5 achieved growth of more than 10% on a month-on-month basis, including GAC Honda, SAIC-GM-Wuling, GAC Aion and other manufacturers.
