Microsoft showcases HoloLens holographic glasses at its flagship store in New York

Starting today, the HoloLens experience display station located in Microsoft's New York flagship store is put into use. It is a semi-permanent setting where developers can try out mixed reality toys and tools. It also serves as a venue for Microsoft to showcase the HoloLens holographic glasses. Microsoft will release the HoloLens holographic glasses development tools early next year and prepare to bring HoloLens to the computing platform.

Microsoft has opened up a quiet floor in its flagship store on Fifth Avenue, with a large booth. It includes 3 rooms where visitors and developers can experience three unique demos. Visitors need to measure their interpupillary distance (IPD) first, then watch a detailed video tutorial before they are allowed to wear HoloLens holographic glasses for experience.

The demos Microsoft demonstrated have been tested and adjusted for months, and in order to avoid involving other brands, consumers will not see Trimble's architectural modeling software demonstration at the HoloLens holographic glasses launch conference, or NASA's Mars visualization tool in the demonstration room.

The demos included HoloStudio, a holographic version of Microsoft's Windows Paintbrush that uses mid-air color grabbing gestures combined with voice commands to move objects and recolor; X-Ray, a fast-paced, controller-based game with HoloLens as the only room scanning option, in which you can see alien robots crawling out of the walls through the HoloLens holographic glasses. The third demo was "Holographic Storytelling," where you create a story using 3D animation software and Microsoft PowerPoint somewhere, and use the HoloLens holographic glasses to watch a holographic version of the story play out.
