Apple: If you accidentally drop your iPhone XR, the cost of repair could be as high as 73% of the price of a new phone

With Apple opening pre-orders for the iPhone XR on the 19th of this month, this year's most affordable new iPhone will also go on sale this Friday.

Although the starting price of iPhone XR is 3,100 yuan cheaper than the iPhone XS Max, which also has dual-SIM dual-standby support, this does not mean that the official repair cost of iPhone XR will be much cheaper.

According to foreign technology blog The Verge, a few days before the iPhone XR went on sale, Apple has announced the details of the iPhone XR's repair costs on its official website. Let's first take a look at how much it costs for Chinese users who purchase Apple Care+ service for their iPhone XR to repair a broken screen.

According to the iPhone screen replacement fee page on Apple China's official website, users who purchase Apple Care+ for the iPhone XR are entitled to two accidental damage warranty services. In the limited two accidental damage warranty services, users with Apple Care+ only need to pay an additional 188 yuan for broken screen repairs, while other repairs except cracked screens require a repair fee of 628 yuan.

However, if you do not purchase Apple Care+ service for your iPhone XR, then once the screen is broken, the "affordable" iPhone XR may not be cheap to repair.

It is understood that the screen repair cost of iPhone XR is 1,589 yuan, which is cheaper than 2,628 yuan for iPhone XS Max and 2,228 yuan for iPhone X/XS.

Considering that the iPhone XR is an LCD full screen with multiple sensors integrated, it is inevitable that the screen repair cost is high. In addition, since the iPhone XR has not yet been officially launched, non-original screen accessories for the iPhone XR may not appear so quickly.

This means that for a short period of time, once your iPhone XR screen is broken, you may only have official repair channels to choose from.

However, the above introduction only covers the cost of repairing the iPhone XR screen. Since the iPhone XR, like the iPhone X and iPhone XS series, is designed with double-sided glass, once the screen of the phone is broken, in addition to the front screen that needs to be repaired, the glass panel on the back of the phone may also be damaged.

• With Apple Care, the maximum repair cost could be 3,188 yuan, which is nearly half of the starting price of the iPhone XR.
• If your iPhone XR is out of warranty, there is a certain chance that the repair costs will be cumulative, which means you will need to pay multiple repair fees in addition, which may be as high as 4,777 yuan, accounting for 73% of the starting price of the iPhone XR.

So, to be on the safe side, when buying a mobile phone, it is best to buy Apple Care+.
