The report mentioned that iPhone OLED panel supplier BOE and Qualcomm jointly developed ultrasonic under-screen fingerprint recognition technology. Previously, well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that Apple will bring under-screen fingerprint Touch ID to the iPhone in 2021.

At present, Qualcomm's ultrasonic under-screen fingerprint recognition technology and module are the only modules on the market that are mass-produced and highly reliable.

There are two main solutions for under-screen fingerprint recognition at present, optical fingerprint recognition and ultrasonic fingerprint recognition. Compared with optical fingerprint recognition, ultrasonic fingerprint recognition is more secure and more applicable. However, the overall technology is still not as mature as optical fingerprint recognition. That is why most mobile phones on the market currently use optical fingerprint recognition.

If Apple's 5G iPhone is equipped with an ultrasonic under-screen fingerprint recognition solution, it will be Apple's first iPhone to use under-screen fingerprint technology. However, the 5G version of the iPhone may still continue to use Apple's Face ID technology, and Face ID and under-screen fingerprint recognition may appear on the 5G iPhone at the same time.
