Foreign media: US judge suspends US Commerce Department's WeChat removal order

According to Overseas Network (the official website of the overseas edition of People's Daily), citing Russian Satellite News, a US judge has suspended the US Department of Commerce's order requiring Apple, Google and other companies to remove WeChat from their app stores starting on the 20th.

According to CNBC, U.S. District Judge Laurel Beeler of California said in an order on the 20th that the WeChat users who filed the lawsuit "raised serious questions about the value of the First Amendment, and after weighing the pros and cons, they tended to favor the plaintiffs." According to reports, Beeler's preliminary injunction also blocked the Commerce Department's order prohibiting other transactions with WeChat in the United States, which could reduce the site's availability to current U.S. users. The U.S. Department of Commerce did not immediately comment on this, while the WeChat Users Alliance praised the ruling as "an important and hard-fought victory for American WeChat users."

IT Home learned that the U.S. Department of Commerce issued a statement on Friday (18th) saying that starting from September 20th, WeChat will be banned from downloading in the United States. The U.S. Department of Commerce requires companies such as Apple and Google to remove related applications from domestic download platforms, but will not prohibit them from providing these two programs outside the United States. Previously, the WeChat User Alliance applied to the court for a temporary injunction to prevent the U.S. government from banning individual users, companies and organizations from using WeChat in the United States.
