The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology removed 104 bad apps in the first quarter: focusing on rectifying free WiFi, bundled downloads, etc.

According to the official website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently announced the quality of telecommunications services in the first quarter of 2022.

The "Notice" introduces the situation of telecommunications service quality in the first quarter of 2022 from three aspects: key telecommunications service tasks, complaints and appeals from telecommunications users, and business and consumption tips.

It was mentioned that in the first quarter of 2022, the 12321 Network Bad and Spam Information Reporting and Acceptance Center received a total of 42,394 valid complaints about bad mobile applications, an increase of 0.65% month-on-month and 3.10% year-on-year.

Among them, 19,704 complaints involved information security issues, accounting for 46.5%; 19,358 complaints involved personal information and permission issues, accounting for 45.6%; and 3,332 complaints involved network security issues, accounting for 7.9%.

Through industry self-discipline, the Internet Society of China, in conjunction with app stores and security testing vendors, removed 104 problematic mobile apps from the shelves.

It is worth noting that the problems previously exposed at the "3.15" Gala, such as luring users into downloading malicious apps in the name of free Wi-Fi, forced bundled downloads by application software platforms, harassing phone calls, and safety protection of children's watches, have been focused on.

Immediately take measures such as removing problematic apps, shutting down voice lines, and conducting related inspections, and guide relevant communications management bureaus to increase law enforcement efforts and severely investigate and punish violations in accordance with the law.

In response to problems such as mobile phone users’ web pages being deliberately folded or not being allowed to view unless they download, an administrative guidance meeting was held to require relevant companies to make serious rectifications, and a third-party testing agency was organized to conduct three rounds of inspections to urge major browser, news, and online community apps to improve related services.
