Hackers release jailbreak tool compatible with Apple iOS 15 and iOS 16

Apple has been working hard to improve the security of its operating systems and devices, and it has become increasingly difficult for hackers to create jailbreak tools for iOS. However, through unremitting efforts, the palera1n team recently released a jailbreak tool that is not only compatible with iOS 15, but also with iOS 16.

Jailbreaking removes software restrictions on iOS devices, allowing users to access and modify system files, enabling various customizations and app sideloading. Of course, Apple has always opposed jailbreaking its devices.

The palera1n jailbreak is based on checkm8, a vulnerability that was discovered back in 2019. The vulnerability is considered "unfixable" because it was found in the bootrom of Apple's chips from A5 to A11 Bionic. Of course, Apple can change other parts of the system to prevent hackers from exploiting the vulnerability, but the company cannot implement a permanent fix on older devices.

According to the developer behind the palera1n jailbreak tool, the jailbreak tool is suitable for any version of the operating system from iOS 15.0 to iOS 16.2. The official version of iOS 16.2 has just been released. It is not clear whether the tool also applies to the iOS 16.3 beta released today.

However, the list of devices affected by the checkm8 vulnerability that can run iOS 16 is not very long. Here are the iPhone and iPad models that can be jailbroken with palera1n on iOS 16:

It is understood that the team warned that the jailbreak tool is still experimental and mainly for developers. Moreover, the jailbreak process is quite complicated, requires a Linux or Mac computer, and only a few functional adjustments are currently compatible with iOS 16.
