You must have heard of the existence of "eternal lamps" from various movies, TV shows or literary works. This lamp, which is said to exist in tombs and can burn for a thousand years, is said to be very mysterious. The "Records of the Grand Historian" clearly records the ever-burning lamps in the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor - "the candles were made of mermaid fat, which was estimated to last for a long time without going out." The "Taiping Yulan" quoted the "Three Qin Records" and also said: "In the tomb of the First Emperor, whale fat was burned as a lamp." But can these so-called ever-burning lamps really "burn forever"? From an archaeological point of view, the eternal lamps in the mausoleums were basically extinguished shortly after the mausoleums were built and the tombs were closed because of lack of oxygen. However, there are many records of lamps that never go out in rumors and records. Some people have made some guesses about its principle - white phosphorus or other flammable substances are added to the wick of the eternal lamp, so that as long as someone opens the tomb, oxygen can be poured in to ignite the lamp, which seems to be "eternally bright". Of course, this is just speculation after all. As for whether the real "eternally bright" lamp exists and what the truth is, it is left for people to continue to explore~ |
