Can you tell the difference between octopus, squid and cuttlefish?

Octopus, squid and cuttlefish are jokingly called the "Soft Brothers". Many people cannot tell the difference between the three brothers. Do you know which one is in the picture below?

Multiple choice question: Guess what my name is?

A Cuttlefish

B Squid

C Octopus

D I can't guess it.

The answer is A. Cuttlefish, not octopus or squid. So what are the differences between the three? Let’s find out together.

Cuttlefish, whose real name is black croaker, is also known as squid, cuttlefish or squid.

Cuttlefish is an animal of the order Sepiida, class Cephalopoda, phylum Mollusca. When it encounters a strong enemy, it will use "ink spraying" as a way to escape and wait for an opportunity to leave, hence the names "squid" and "cuttlefish". There are small pigment sacs in its skin, which change color and size with the change of "emotions". Cuttlefish can jump out of the sea and have amazing flying ability in the air. It is characterized by a thick calcareous inner shell (squid bone, cuttlefish bone or sea octopus, which can be used as medicine).

Octopus, also known as octopus, stone fish, and dead cow.

Octopus belongs to the order Octopoda, class Cephalopoda, genus Octopus, family Octopus. It is called "octopoda" because it has eight arms on its head, which are connected by membranes of different lengths and have two rows of sessile suckers. It is a marine animal, not a fish. Octopus can not only spray ink six times in a row, but also change its color and structure like the most flexible chameleon, becoming like a stone covered with algae, and then suddenly pounce on its prey, and the prey has no time to realize what is happening.

Squid, also known as squid, cuttlefish or calamari, is an animal of the suborder Osmoothias in the class Cephalopoda and the order Sphenophthalma.

The body is slender and long-conical, with more than a dozen tentacles, two of which are relatively long. There is a sucker at the front end of the tentacle, and inside the sucker is a horny tooth ring. When hunting, it uses the tentacles to wrap around the food and swallow it. It likes to gather in groups, especially in the spring and summer mating and spawning season. Squids are ferocious carnivorous animals. Most of their food is small middle and upper layer species such as small male fish, sardines, horse mackerel and krill. They also prey on a large number of their own kind. Squids themselves are important bait for tuna, mackerel, hairtail and seabirds.
