Recently, good news came from the space environment ground simulation device built by Harbin Institute of Technology and China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation! This is the first large scientific device in my country's aerospace field, also known as the "ground space station."

On April 16, Li Liyi, executive deputy commander, executive deputy chief engineer, and dean of the Institute of Space Environment and Material Science of Harbin Institute of Technology, introduced that the main construction of the space environment ground simulation device has been completed, and joint debugging and trial operation are underway. Some devices are already providing scientific research services to users. It is expected that the overall project will be completed and accepted by the end of this year.

This marks the addition of a new national weapon in my country's aerospace field, which will play an important supporting role in enhancing my country's aerospace industry and space science exploration capabilities.

"The space environment ground simulation device is to build a 'ground space station' on the earth that is similar to the real space environment, which is equivalent to 'moving' the space station to the earth." Li Liyi said, "In the future, many experiments that need to reach space can be completed here. By then, it will no longer be 'difficult to go to the sky' for scientists to conduct space experiments. In the future, astronauts can also experience and adapt to the surface environment of the moon, Mars and other planets here."

Ma Guoliang, member of the Party Committee of the Institute of Space Environment and Material Science of Harbin Institute of Technology and designer of the ion irradiation research system of devices in the space environment ground simulation device, introduced that the space environment ground simulation device simulates nine major space factors such as vacuum, radiation, weak magnetism, plasma, etc., and constructs a comprehensive environmental factor on the ground with in-situ/semi-in-situ dynamic measurement and analysis capabilities. It can realize multi-scale and cross-scale environmental effect research in materials, devices, systems and life sciences.

Li Liyi said that the space environment ground simulation device is not only a national treasure, but also a scientific research tool. "In the future, we will strive to build the 'ground space station' into the most advanced technology research and engineering application platform in the fields of space science, aerospace technology, and material science. Let this national treasure play a greater role in accelerating the construction of a space power."
