Red alert! Typhoon Trami's remnant vortex triggers heavy rains. How to avoid risks scientifically?

This year's 20th typhoon "Trami" made landfall on the coast near the border between Da Nang and Hue, Vietnam, around 10:40 on the 27th. The maximum wind force near the center was 9 (23 meters per second) at the time of landing. Its intensity weakened from tropical storm level to tropical depression in the afternoon of the 27th. At 05:00 on the 28th, the center was located at 15.9 degrees north latitude and 108.2 degrees east longitude, that is, in Quang Nam Province, Vietnam. The maximum wind force near the center was 7 (15 meters per second). From 8 to 14 o'clock today, heavy to torrential rains occurred in parts of central and southern Hainan Island. Heavy rains occurred in Sanya, Baoting and Lingshui, Hainan, and local precipitation in Sanya reached 272 to 303 mm .

At present, the Central Meteorological Observatory has stopped numbering "Trami", but its residual cloud system will continue to affect Hainan Island and other places.

At 09:58 on October 28, 2024, the Sanya Meteorological Observatory changed the orange rainstorm warning signal to the red rainstorm warning signal : It is expected that from 14:00 today to 14:00 tomorrow, most parts of Hainan Island will have heavy rain or torrential rain, with local torrential rain, and the cumulative rainfall in 24 hours may reach 300~320 mm.

On October 28, all primary and secondary schools and kindergartens in Sanya will be closed from noon today, and some scenic spots such as Sanya West Island Marine Cultural Tourism Zone will be closed . Why is it that while the North is preparing for winter, there are still typhoons preparing to land in the South?

In fact, typhoons generated from September to November are all classified as autumn typhoons, and in terms of number, autumn typhoons are no less than summer typhoons. They are also strong and easy to combine with cold air. On average, October is the fourth month with the most typhoons in the whole year, second only to August, September and July.

There are not only autumn typhoons, but also winter typhoons. According to historical statistics, since 2000, two typhoons have landed in my country in November and December, namely Typhoon Nepartak in 2003 (landed in Hainan Island on November 18) and Typhoon Nanmadol in 2004 (landed in Taiwan Island on December 4). Among them, Typhoon Nanmadol in 2004 was the latest typhoon to land in my country since 1949.

How to avoid risks when traveling on rainy days?

When a typhoon comes, do not go out unless necessary. If you have to go out, remember to stay away from the seaside, mountainside, temporary buildings, billboards, towers, large trees and other places that are prone to collapse;

After the typhoon passes, pay special attention to secondary disasters caused by heavy rains, and stay away from high-risk areas for geological disasters such as landslides and mudslides.
