A reporter recently learned from the Qin Shihuang Mausoleum Museum that archaeologists recently discovered a rare high-ranking military officer figurine in Pit No. 2 of the Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses.

In the experimental chamber of the Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses Pit No. 2, staff are cleaning and splicing the newly excavated senior military officer figurine. In November this year, archaeologists discovered this broken military officer figurine during the excavation of Pit No. 2 and extracted it.

Zhu Sihong, the person in charge of the Qin Terracotta Warriors Pit No. 2 archaeological project, said that this high-ranking military officer figurine is the first high-ranking military officer figurine unearthed since the official excavation of Pit No. 2 in 1994. According to its unearthed location, we infer that it is likely to be the highest military commander of this unit.

Experts said that this excavation is of great significance to the study of the military organization and military system of the Qin Dynasty. The high-ranking military officer figurines are also called "general figurines". They usually wear a pheasant crown, armor, and hold their hands in front of their abdomen. There are exquisite patterns and ribbons around the armor, shoulders, and front and back chest. At present, only 10 high-ranking military officer figurines have been found in the Qin Terracotta Army.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the archaeological excavation of the Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses. Over the past half century, archaeologists have successively discovered the Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses Pits 1, 2, and 3, covering a total area of more than 20,000 square meters, unearthed more than 2,000 terracotta warriors and horses, as well as important cultural relics such as bronze chariots and horses, stone armor, and acrobatic figurines, and clarified the main remains of the Qin Shihuang Mausoleum, providing a scientific basis for the comprehensive protection and systematic display of the Qin Shihuang Mausoleum.

Why do all the unearthed Terracotta Warriors have single eyelids?

Maybe these two reasons

According to Zhu Sihong, the person in charge of the Qin Terracotta Warriors Pit No. 2 archaeological project, the terracotta warriors and horses currently on display and excavated in Pits 1, 2 and 3 all have single eyelids, and the military officer terracotta warrior whose identity has just been confirmed also has single eyelids.

Zhu Sihong said that the academic community has not yet reached a conclusion on whether all the unearthed terracotta warriors have single eyelids. He said that there are currently two speculations.

1. Single or double eyelids may have something to do with race and ethnicity. Most people at that time had single eyelids.

2. Double eyelids appear to be a little friendlier and easier to communicate with, whereas single eyelids give people a stern and serious expression, which may be related to the role requirements of the military.
