"Looking through the stars, exploring the moon palace!" The names of the lunar suit and manned lunar rover for China's manned lunar exploration mission are officially confirmed

According to the China Manned Space Engineering Office, after an open solicitation and selection, the names of the lunar suit and manned lunar rover for China's manned lunar exploration mission have been determined recently. The lunar suit is named "Wangyu" and the manned lunar rover is named "Exploration" .

Following the first public solicitation of names for new spacecraft for manned lunar exploration missions in 2023, the China Manned Space Engineering Office launched the solicitation of names for lunar suits and manned lunar rovers for manned lunar exploration missions in September and October 2024, which attracted wide attention and enthusiastic participation from the whole society, and received more than 9,000 submissions from organizations and people from all walks of life in the fields of aerospace, science and technology, and cultural communication. The names were finally determined after expert selection and review.

At present, the Wangyu lunar suit and the exploration manned lunar rover have fully entered the prototype development stage, and all work is progressing smoothly.

The names of the lunar suits and manned lunar rovers have distinct Chinese characteristics, characteristics of the times and cultural characteristics. "Wangyu" means looking into the universe and exploring the unknown, which echoes the "Feitian" extravehicular suit for space station missions. It means that after realizing the dream of flying into space and building a "space home", China's manned spaceflight has embarked on a new journey of landing on the moon and looking into the deep space. It also conveys China's firm position in the development of the space industry to always adhere to the peaceful use of space and contribute to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. "Exploration" means the exploration and practice of the unknown world, which clearly reflects the core mission and application value of the lunar rover to help the Chinese explore the mysteries of the moon. It is highly consistent with the space dream of "exploring the vast universe, developing the space industry, and building a space power", and demonstrates the innovative spirit of China's manned spaceflight to climb to the top and unremittingly seek.

At present, the Long March 10 carrier rocket, Mengzhou manned spacecraft, Lanyue lunar lander, lunar spacesuit, manned lunar rover, etc. are carrying out prototype production and related ground tests as planned. A batch of ground facilities and equipment to ensure the above-mentioned production tests have been completed and put into use, and the construction of the Wenchang launch site is being carried out in advance.
