Google Brain Director: Artificial Intelligence Will Become a More Advanced Cloud Computing

Beijing time, March 9 morning news, before the AlphaGo and Lee Sedol battle, Google Research senior researcher, Google Brain team leader Jeff Dean introduced Google's artificial intelligence technology at the launch conference of the Four Seasons Hotel in Seoul, South Korea. He said that Google's machine intelligence has brought about tremendous changes and more and more opportunities, and artificial intelligence has become a higher level of cloud computing services.

Dean introduced the Google Cloud Vision API and TensorFlow, an open-source artificial intelligence tool for developers, at the conference. Through the former, developers can apply Google's image recognition technology to their own products, while the latter has become the number one machine learning repository on GitHub since its release in November last year.

Dean said that the data analysis model built by Google through neural networks can be applied to a variety of different fields such as image recognition, speech recognition, translation, and even medical health and robotics industries.

The reason why Google opened up its AI resources to developers is that it saw the increasing demand for AI products. Dean said that this is a huge opportunity brought by AI, so Google opened up related tools to allow developers to add AI content to their products in a more convenient way.

When asked by reporters whether artificial intelligence will become Google's future business platform like cloud computing, Dean said that the artificial intelligence provided by Google actually already exists in Google's cloud computing platform, and these functions are more advanced functions provided based on data analysis.

Google Cloud Platform's data analysis capabilities have attracted streaming music service Spotify. Last month, the company announced plans to migrate some servers from Amazon's cloud computing service AWS to Google Cloud Platform. Spotify said the main reason for the migration was Google's big data analysis capabilities. The streaming company can use Google's data analysis technology to adjust its own music recommendation engine.

Google's cloud computing services have always lagged behind Amazon and Microsoft. In February this year, Deutsche Bank analyst Karl Keirstead pointed out that Google's cloud computing platform has ranked third in the so-called public cloud market by a large margin, far behind Amazon and Microsoft.
