Interest in autonomous driving has grown rapidly in recent years. The adoption of self-driving cars will disrupt many industries, and one industry that is already starting to feel the disruption is freight, the backbone of every supply chain. Public transportation is not far behind, as automated shared transportation and rapid transit networks are transforming the last mile of the journey. By reducing the number of cars on the road, self-driving public transportation and long-distance buses make the air cleaner, quieter, and safer to walk and ride.

According to the latest data from Tractica, global sales of autonomous trucks and buses reached $84 million in 2017, and this market will continue to grow strongly in the coming years, with more intense competition within the industry, while also providing huge opportunities for various industries. By the end of 2022, the global revenue of the autonomous driving industry will reach $35 billion. Sales will increase from approximately 343 units in 2017 to 188,000 units.

Research analyst Manoj Sahi said: "The potential for autonomous trucks and buses is huge, and market growth is accelerating, with more news of successful pilot projects and several well-known companies considering large-scale investments in development."
