Crunchbase: Health and biotech investments to exceed $120 billion in 2021

Investments in biotech and healthcare have boomed during the pandemic as thousands of venture capital firms have turned their attention to artificial intelligence, cancer detection technology, mental health treatments, digital doctor visits, diagnostics and more. The two largest investors are Boston-based RA Capital Management and New York-based OrbiMed.

Crunchbase data shows that as of December 1, 2021, investments into health and biotech startups have exceeded $120 billion.

While health and biotech are often inextricably linked, a large portion of the investment is directly into biotech companies.

Biotech leads most investment rounds

According to Crunchbase data, biotechnology startups were the industry that received the most venture capital from January 1 to December 1, 2021.

Most of the money is invested in biotech startups

RA Capital Management and OrbiMed lead the biotech industry in terms of total investment and number of investment rounds.
