The free lunch is over: Tesla Superchargers start charging

Tesla Motors announced on Monday that it will end its unlimited free use policy of its Supercharger stations worldwide. Tesla cars ordered after January 1 next year can charge 400 kWh (about 1,600 kilometers) for free each year, and the excess will be charged separately. Tesla's current car models (including Model X and Model S) are free when charging at Supercharger stations. The company plans to implement charging fee plans on future Models. Tesla said that existing car owners, as well as Tesla owners who complete orders before January 1 next year and complete delivery before April 1 next year, will not be affected by the fee adjustment and can continue to enjoy free charging. Tesla said it will announce details of the charging plan later this year. The company emphasized that even after charging, the cost of charging a Tesla car will be much lower than the cost of refueling a comparable fuel car. Tesla launched its Supercharger network around the world four years ago, and has been well received by car owners for its fast, convenient and free charging services. Charging in 30 minutes can travel 270 kilometers, which is 10 times the efficiency of a home charging station. Currently, Tesla has built more than 4,600 super charging stations around the world, covering more than 160,000 Tesla owners.
