Street lamps can be transformed into car charging stations that can provide WiFi

Totem, a New York company, has designed a new type of urban street light that uses solar cells and energy storage batteries to provide WiFi, 4G networks and charge electric vehicles. Its appearance design is also very unique. These street lights will be used for street lighting and will also be provided to schools and retailers.

The top of the street lamp is equipped with a 5 kW solar panel array. Part of the energy generated is used for lighting, and part will be fed into the city grid to supply energy for the city. At the same time, the street lamp can also obtain energy from the city grid when necessary. The excess energy generated by the solar panels will be stored in the 50 kWh energy storage battery in the lamp post, which allows the street lamp to continue to illuminate in the event of a sudden power outage in the city.

The street light can also provide WiFi and 4G network. The network service is provided by a third party, and Totem has not yet disclosed whether the network service of the street light will be charged. In addition, the street light can charge two electric vehicles at the same time. The first Totem street light will be officially released in 2017.
