Continental builds wireless charging terminal for Mercedes-Benz, eliminating clutter in one go

Recently, Continental announced that it has developed a multi-functional smart device terminal (MFST) for Mercedes-Benz E-Class car owners, which allows car owners to safely and conveniently wirelessly charge smartphones and other devices in the car. From now on, Mercedes-Benz E-Class car owners may say goodbye to the mess of spare batteries, power banks, mobile phones and other charging cables.

Andreas Wolf, head of Continental's Body & Safety business, said: "My entire development team and I are very pleased that our MSDT is being used for the first time in such a high-end and innovative Mercedes-Benz E-Class series. Although it is the first time in the industry, the performance of our terminal is sufficient to meet its high standards. In addition to the wireless charging function, car owners can also enjoy close integration with mobile devices in the car."

The phone is connected to the car via wireless technology, and the owner only needs to place the phone on the compartment in the middle of the console. In addition, any mobile device can be charged in this way. But the only requirement is that the smartphone must meet the Qi standard of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), and the phone can also be updated to this standard if it can. This standard can ensure the same charging current after the USB is connected, and the consistency of charging time for each mobile device.

In the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, MSDT also supports automatic wireless connection between the mobile phone and the car's external antenna and audio system via Bluetooth. The owner only needs to activate the Near Field Communication (NFC) function. In addition, the NFC technology provided by Continental also allows the owner to use the smartphone as a digital key for car identity authentication. When starting the engine, the owner only needs to place the phone on the MSDT and click the start button. The terminal also supports wireless antenna connection technology, so the signal received by the mobile phone will be further optimized during driving.
