SKF sued by Daimler for alleged monopoly

According to foreign media reports, SKF was punished by the European Union in 2014 for allegedly violating the European bearing industry's antitrust rules. As the world's largest industrial bearing manufacturer, SKF was recently sued by Daimler.

In March 2014, SKF and several other suppliers were fined $1.08 billion by EU antitrust officials for allegedly monopolizing the ball bearing industry.

The EU's execution also prompted major European automakers to possibly file a lawsuit against SKF. In December last year, SKF said that BMW had publicly filed a lawsuit against SKF and several other bearing manufacturers.

"Daimler is demanding that SKF pay at least 59 million euros in compensation, plus interest and reimbursement of costs," SKF said in a statement on Tuesday. "SKF firmly believes that the European Commission's sanctions have not resulted in losses to its business partners."

SKF revealed that Daimler has filed a lawsuit at the Nuremberg-Fürth State Court in Germany.
