Global supercomputer competition: Europe's most powerful computer performance is only 2.5% of China's

Supercomputers have become one of the hottest areas in the technological "arms race" among countries. Therefore, every time the global Top 500 computer list is released, it will attract media attention. Among them, China's achievements in the field of supercomputers in recent years are obvious to all. And how far have supercomputers developed globally? The United States is a traditional powerhouse in the field of supercomputers. American computers frequently appear in the top 100, occupying many positions such as 3rd, 7th, 12th, 15th, 16th, 19th-21st, and a total of 31 positions. However, in recent years, China has replaced the United States in the first echelon of the list. China occupies the 1st, 2nd, 42nd, 67th, 74th, 77th, 78th, 86th, 91st and 96th positions in the top 100. Ranked first in the Top 500 is China's Sunway TaihuLight, which uses China's own processor (Shenwei 26010) with a peak speed of 125435.9TFlops/s. The peak speed of the supercomputer of Cray, a US company ranked third, using AMD Opteron processors is "only" 27112.5 TFlops/s. This is roughly only 22% of China's TaihuLight. According to reports, the best supercomputer in the EU is Mistal in Hamburg, ranked 33rd, with a speed of 3147.8 TFlops/s, which is only 2.5% of TaihuLight. In other words, the most powerful computer in the EU can only reach 2.5% of the performance of China's supercomputer.
